Career Growth.

I was unofficially officially told I would be staying at my current store, instead of moving to the new store my O/O is purchasing. I am a little disappointed because I'm not headed to the newest store, and being a part of the powerhouse team that is going to be managing that store. Mostly, though, I'm really excited about being promoted into an Assistant Manager position. I've been doing the job of Assistant Manager for a few months, and my Store Manager B. and I have got a solid rapport and we both have a similar vision for where our store needs to go for us to grow. It's going to be nice to be paid at Assistant Manager scale for Assistant Manager work.

Hi Mike. I just finished reading almost the whole blog you have written here. Why? Because I have just been hired as an overnight shift manager for my local McDonalds.

Your blog has provided me with many things... motivation, a passion for excellence, a good idea of what training will be like, problems I may face along the way and lastly a sense of pride for the work you do. I appreciate all of this. Thanks for taking the time to write about your experience.

I agree with anonymous, your blog is pretty valuable to us shift managers. Makes me feel like what I do plays a major part in the success of our store, and reminds me that the problems I face at my store are pretty much universal. Awesome Job!

Wow, thanks.

This blog exists really only for me to get some things that are in my head, out. Basically, to verbalize (typify?) my thoughts, so I can think them more coherently.

I do wake up every day glad that I am breathing, happy that I still wear my skin, and that I have another opportunity to live my life alive. To me this means being awake, aware, the basic McDonald's management philosophy is based upon "BE HERE NOW", which so few people are willing to focus on. The past 5-7 years of my life, I've been trying to focus my own mind on living aware, and being focused like a laser beam on *right now*, what's happening in the universe right where I am, and having a positive impact on it.

My McDonald's opportunity offers me a thousand chances a day to be the best me I can be, it's amazing what some cheap burgers can do ;)

I hope you have success in your training Anonymous. If I could make a single suggestion to you on your training path, well, two suggestions, they would be this...
1) BE HERE NOW!
2) Re-read your MDP book as many times as it takes until you have a solid grasp of the systems and procedures in place for handling your responsibilities.

I am commenting to let you know what a terrific experience my daughter enjoyed reading through your web page. She noticed a wide variety of pieces, with the inclusion of what it is like to have an awesome helping style to have the rest without hassle grasp some grueling matters.
